The catch up (From J)

Hello again.

Remember a few weeks ago when I posted that we’d been taking some ‘personal time off’ (Read as: We’re busy with real life) and that we’d be posting more soon?

I might have lied.

Life is still playing havoc with our time. But, with all the cool stuff happening with my gaming world, I figured I’d bite the bullet and write something about what I’ve been up to in the last few months…

Played a ton of demos. Say what you want about PSN, the demos are flowing in like no one’s business. The good: Brutal Legend  is fun and very smart. Double Fine did a great job so far and it seems that this is going to be a big game for them. Jack Black is very tolerable and is really funny in his role as….himself. Looking to pick this up. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is also continuing the win streak of getting a better ninja game after the fact. Again, the demo unlocks more content with every play through, like the first demo for NGS. Making it a favorite of people that can’t buy games as often as they used to. The combat is more of the same smooth, cut your arms off, crazy crap that you should be used to by now. The boss fight towards the end of the demo is pretty crazy. I felt like buying the game after playing it a few times.

More good: picked up the first of the Fallout 3 DLC FINALLY on PS3, Broken Steel. It’s great, as you already know. The Broken Steel story is longer then I thought and at one point, got so hard, I thought I was going to throw my controller across the room. The subway fight is the worst, most frustrating sequence in a game that I’ve played in a long time. It was still worth getting to start back in to a game that really is deep and expansive.  Also, finding three different flamethrowers is awesome for someone like me that seems to enjoy setting people on fire alittle too much at times.

Finally bought Trash Panic and Shatter. Both awesome, addictive games with quirky gameplay and wonderful soundtrack. Even if Trash Panic is the hardest fucking game I’ve ever played, I still love playing it. Shatter is another way for companies to get my money. Keep making Arkaniod games, guys and I’ll keep buying them. Between Shatter and Magic Ball, I should be doing an all ball returning game weekend. I love that stuff.

Speaking of stuff I love, I got into the Uncharted 2 Beta, and later the public demo/beta. Both times, I really couldn’t believe that this game was getting so much love from the gaming press and other news outlets. It’s still Uncharted. The gun play and scaling are back along with multiplayer. I mean, I came from a time, 2007 to be exact, where the thought of a PS3 game being good was something of a internet punchline. Now Uncharted 2 seems to be, many people think, the hands down, game of the year. What a difference two years can make. Looking forward to the showdown of Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2 and ODST fighting for GotY honors.

Been replaying all of my old games since money is tight and there are so many games coming in the next three to four months that I’m not going to have money for. Replaying Uncharted, Bioshock, Lumines Supernova, Zen Pinball, Fallout 3, (this time as the evil guy) and Wipeout HD is reminding me how much I love gaming. Planning on busting out some more trophies on these games, as well as Shatter and Marvel Vs Capcom 2.

In other news, I just got Diablo 2 like it’s the year 2000. Always up with the times. More on this when I get started. All you need to know is that I’ve always wanted to play this game, but never had the computer processing power to run it and with my type of gaming personality, I was afraid of the game destroying my life. But with 134 hours in Fallout 3 (not including the times that I had to start over  due to being trapped somewhere or erasing my save to start over with trophies)  and a embarrassing 481 hours in Oblivion, I think I’ll be ok playing a 9 years old game. More when it develops.

That’s all for now. More soon. Really this time………mabye.

In Deck: School’s out forever………

Well, it’s been a long road, but I’m done with school as of yesterday. Thank you. Other then making up time I missed while enjoying myself in Hawaii, I’ve got nothing but time on my hands. Well, outside of getting plans together for my new business. But in the meantime, it’s time to catch up on some games. And there has been ALOT of games I’ve been playing and that I’ve really wanted to play. It feels good to not have to have to get up early on the weekends at stare into an anatomy book. Anyway, on to the games……

I don’t doubt that casual games are here to stay. I like alot of them. It’s the notion that all games are going, and should go, in this this direction is what bothers me. I don’t mind the thought of the “casual” game and the “hardcore” existing together, though. My personal favorites are of the Pop Cap variety. Bejeweled 2 and Peggle being the ones getting the most play for me. Bejeweled 2 is my first foray into the world of casual. And it’s awesome as you already know, but Peggle really got me. It’s the simplest premise, erase all the orange pegs. It’s likely the perfect casual game. One where it’s simple to learn, but after you look up at the clock and realize that you’ve been playing for three hours. It’s a good time. Sometimes I hope it’s not too good.

Peggle is out on every platform you can think off (except PS3…for now) From $10 to free.

Magic Ball

This Breakout clone is still fun. Played more over the course of a few weeks of late night studying. And got 100% of the trophies in the game, a first for me. Seems like I’ll be able to show you by this time tomorrow. Again, if you like your games on the casual side and you like Breakout/Arkanoid clones, check it out.

Magic Ball is out for $10 on PSN

Fallout 3

Jumped into Fallout 3 for a second. I’m two bobbleheads away from Vault-Tec CEO trophy. I’m very close to the end of the game, so bailed and am roaming around being a general badass, mowing down anyone in my way in the process. It’s hard to get back into the game since I’ve really wanted to start Oblivion again. Playing both at the same time could destroy my life. Fallout 3 could be my first platinum trophy. More on this soon.

Fallout 3 is out on PS3, 360 and PC; 360 and PC have exclusive DLC for $60

On Deck……….

Killzone 2

Not much more can be said. Thanks to’s retarded “one day shipping,” I am getting KZ2… Yeah. THREE DAYS after release. But, that’s water under the bridge. I plan on getting into the possibly the most talked about game of all time. Reviews seem to say it lives up to the hype. Halo killer? People don’t want Halo to die, so it won’t. No matter what. So stop it with the “killer” tag. It’s sounds like an awesome game with awesome multiplayer variants. I’ll have my story about my first hour with the game up soon.

Hope you’re doing ok and that your playing something cool.

good news/bad news for fallout 3

in case you didn’t know, fallout 3 got it’s patch, fixing a number of problems in the game. the PS3 version, along with the fixes, gets the much lauded trophies update, adding the achievements that are standard on the 360. so starts my possible new segment: Good news/Bad news.

so the good news: i started a new game. deciding to be an evil character, i started out speaking ill of everyone i met, not adding much to my evil karma meter. i continued through the beginning until i escaped the vault, with two trophies under my belt. i figured it was time to save. so……

Bad news: fallout 3 doesn’t save like it predecessor, oblivion. apparently, when you start a new game, you start a new game. so, long story short, the new save autosaved over the old one. unless you actually save a separate game, you’re fucked. so, my level 20, 80+ hour fallout save is gone. all the cool weapons, items and armor, as well as game progression……gone.

lucky for me, i love playing this game. this hasn’t been the best few weeks for me.

Sony drops news: games, games, games

Sony has stepped their game up in 2008. 2007 was a tough year, but 2008 is coming along nicely. but, there has been alot of game news in the last few days. here is some of the more interesting game news (to me anyway.)

wow. underground is over next week. shame. but, as long as the website moves closer to a bungie/xbox360-like interface where you can check your friends’ list and trophies online, i’m cool with it. the website updates ‘early’ next week.

sweet deal. i’m not really a trophy whore. granted, some have had me scratching my head, trying to figure out how the hell do i get 100,000,000 points in Pain to get the Affliction Addiction trophy. but overall, i dig having them around. and with sony possibly starting a reward system around your trophy score, (i’m not sure what it’s really called) it’s making me more likely to try to get more trophies in pixel junk eden. now, if they would hurry up with the fallout 3 trophies……..

(source – mtv’s multiplayer blog)

well, this would be a welcome change. sure, the PS store is rolling along and i’d like to think that sony is leading in the downloadable content department. but, not having more PS1 games online is a crime. drop street fighter EX next week with Street Fighter 2 hyper mega global super remix 2. MGS2 and MGS3? dark cloud? rez? the list could go on forever. let’s hope this is going to jump off sooner then later.

sony is trying to keep up with the times. i dig it. back to playing fallout 3.
